ICMR Collaborating Centre of Excellence (ICMR-CCoE)

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) acknowledges India’s growing status as a global leader in health research. Various public and private research institutions, including medical colleges and non-governmental organizations, have played a significant role in this progress.

In this backdrop, ICMR is recognizing ICMR Collaborating Centers of Excellence. Through this recognition, ICMR's goal is to create a supportive and sustainable environment that encourages collaborative, multidisciplinary biomedical research across the country.

Purpose:

  • 1. ICMR would like to recognize the research groups that have conducted excellent research in the recent past as ICMR Collaborating Centre of Excellence.
  • 2. To foster collaboration between ICMR & its institutes and Centers of Excellence as well as amongst the Centers of Excellence.
  • 3. To strengthen resources of the country, in terms of information, services, research and training in support of national health development.

Duration:

5 years (extendable based on review)

Categories of Organizations: 

  • Public, Private, NGO, academia and research institutions, including medical colleges, universities, veterinary colleges, engineering colleges etc.

Eligibility: 

Indian research institutes or organizations that fulfill the criteria mentioned below can be recognized as an ICMR CCoE:

  • 1. A research team of an institute with cutting edge biomedical research experience led by a senior PI
  • 2. Excellent track record in health research in terms of impactful publications
  • 3. Demonstrated collaboration with or contribution to ICMR
  • 4. Willingness to contribute to the objectives and activities of ICMR on an honorary basis, such as adjunct faculty for help in capacity development, assisted with proposal development workshops etc.
  • 5. Willingness to work with ICMR on national priorities related to public health.
  • 6. Categories of research teams to be included: basic research, translational research, clinical research, laboratory based research, population-based research.

Financial Support: 

Recognition as ICMR-CCoE is independent of any financial support being given to the institution by ICMR. No special financial support will be provided to ICMR-CCoE.

Selection Process: 

The call for this recognition is rolled out by the Council in June- July every year. Interested organizations can apply through ICMR Electronic Project Management System (e-PMS) link:
